How Stean Gorge is more than just a walk in the countryside; it’s an experience that brings nature, geology, and imagination together in one unforgettable visit. The gorge’s dramatic limestone formations are so unique that the site has been officially designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, recognising its rare geological features and importance to the area’s natural heritage. Your adventure begins with walking trails that wind along the gorge, offering spectacular views of the rugged rock formations and the crystal-clear stream that runs through its heart. It’s the perfect blend of excitement and discovery, suitable for adventurers young and old.
As you wander through the gorge, keep your eyes peeled for a touch of enchantment among the rocks and trees: Aslan the Lion. This stunning oak sculpture, inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia, was originally commissioned by Disney and now stands proudly at How Stean Gorge. Majestic and full of character, Aslan adds a hint of fantasy to the natural surroundings, delighting visitors and making for a perfect photo stop.
After exploring the caves and trails, visitors can unwind at the on-site café, where delicious food, hot drinks, and sweet treats are served with spectacular views across the gorge itself.
