Initially invented in the 1930s as a strong adhesive and protective coating, epoxy resin was most commonly used in industrial manufacturing and engineering. However, today, it’s taken on a whole new meaning in the world of creative expression and modern art. Its original functions – bonding and sealing – now offer a wealth of artistic possibilities, thanks to the resin's glossy finish, glass-like clarity, and ability to preserve colour and texture.
From mesmerising epoxy resin tables to vibrant coasters, jewellery and wall art, this once-industrial material has sparked a full-blown creative craze. Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram have fuelled its rise, showcasing hypnotic pouring videos and stunning handcrafted pieces that look anything but DIY.
So if you fancy learning the secrets of this satisfying and surprisingly therapeutic art form – without spending hundreds of pounds on a finished piece – here’s how you can take a 1930s invention and turn it into something truly beautiful.
Epoxy resin art is where science meets creativity. Originally developed as a high-strength adhesive and protective coating, epoxy resin has been transformed into a medium for art, design, and home décor. When mixed and poured correctly, it creates a smooth, glossy surface that can be coloured, layered, and even embedded with objects like flowers, shells, or glitter. Once cured, it sets into a solid, glass-like finish that’s not only beautiful but also durable.
This form of art has become hugely popular across social media and in the DIY world, thanks to its satisfying pouring process and endless creative potential. Whether you’re drawn in by mesmerising marbling or the chance to preserve nature in a unique piece, epoxy resin art is one of the most rewarding and visually striking ways to express yourself.
When it comes to what you can create with epoxy resin, the possibilities are nearly endless. It’s been embraced by makers and artists for everything from large-scale furniture to tiny, delicate accessories.
Because resin sets solid, the results are long-lasting, practical, and totally one-of-a-kind.
If you’re ready to dive in and try it for yourself, our epoxy resin experiences are the perfect place to begin. Led by experienced instructors in a welcoming studio environment, each class focuses on hands-on learning, fun, and helping you bring your own artistic vision to life.
Here’s a look at the resin art workshops you can book at WonderDays:
Whether you're looking to explore resin art classes as a hobby, try something different with a friend, or create a piece that truly reflects your style, these workshops are a brilliant way to unlock your creativity, learn new skills, and master essential techniques of epoxy resin art. The best part? You’ll design and make something timeless, stylish, and completely unique to you!
Will I need to bring anything to the class?
Nope! All materials, tools and safety gear are provided. Just bring yourself and a readiness to get creative.
Can I take my artwork home the same day?
Because resin needs time to cure, your piece will usually be ready for collection the following day. In some cases, they may be able to post it to you.
Is epoxy resin safe to use?
When used correctly and with good ventilation, epoxy resin is safe. Our workshops always follow safety guidelines and provide gloves, aprons and proper working conditions.
Is epoxy resin art expensive?
It doesn’t have to be. While some tools and materials can add up over time, especially for larger projects like tables, many beginner-friendly creations such as coasters or small artwork can be done affordably. Taking part in a workshop is a great way to try it out without investing in all the equipment upfront.
Is epoxy resin good for beginners?
Yes, absolutely. Epoxy resin is surprisingly beginner-friendly, especially when guided by an experienced tutor. Our workshops are designed to walk you through the process step by step – no previous experience needed. You’ll learn how to mix, pour, and style your own piece with confidence.
Can you put photos in epoxy resin for beginners?
You can, but it takes a little care. Photos need to be properly sealed (often with a laminating pouch or specialist sealant) to prevent them from reacting with the resin. While it’s a beautiful way to preserve memories, we’d recommend starting with dried flowers or simple decorative elements first if you're new to the craft.
How long does epoxy take to dry?
Drying time varies depending on the brand, temperature, and humidity, but most epoxy resin projects will start to harden within 12–24 hours. Full curing can take up to 72 hours. In workshops, you’ll often collect your piece the following day once it’s fully set.
How long will epoxy resin last?
Once cured, epoxy resin is incredibly durable and long-lasting. Your finished piece can last for years – even decades – if kept away from extreme heat and direct sunlight. It’s water-resistant, scratch-resistant, and perfect for functional as well as decorative items.
What is the difference between art resin and epoxy resin?
All art resin is a type of epoxy resin, but not all epoxy resin is suitable for art. Art resin is specially formulated to have a high-gloss finish, low yellowing over time, and safe handling for creative use. Industrial epoxy may contain harsher chemicals and is designed more for structural or protective purposes.
