This brilliant day out for two would be a treat for anyone, a visit to The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace with a relaxing lunch at The Clermont, Charing Cross.

Start off with a visit to The Royal Mews, one of the most impressive working stables in the world and still the beating heart of the Royal Family’s road travel. Here, you’ll wander among centuries of history, getting up close to the very horses and carriages used for grand state events. The Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays, true equine royalty, call this place home, and seeing them in person is a real highlight.

Inside the Mews, you’ll find an extraordinary collection of historic coaches and carriages, each with its own story to tell. The Diamond Jubilee State Coach and the Australian State Coach offer a fascinating glimpse into royal tradition, with the latter even boasting central heating. But nothing quite prepares you for the Gold State Coach, used at every coronation since 1821 and gleaming like something straight out of a fairytale.

After your royal wanderings, you’ll make your way over to The Clermont, Charing Cross, where a 3 course lunch awaits in the hotel’s beautifully restored lounge. The setting is elegant without feeling stuffy, making it a lovely place to unwind. The menu celebrates seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, with modern British dishes that are full of flavour. Whether you’re in the mood for something comforting or something a bit lighter, there’s plenty to enjoy and it all comes with a glass of sparkling wine to toast your day out.

The Royal Mews is now closed for the winter and will reopen in March 2026

2026 Royal Mews Opening Times:
The Royal Mews is usually closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except during July and August when it's open 7 days a week.

5 March - 24 October 2026: 10am to 5pm (last admission 4pm)
25 October - 1 November 2026: 10am to 4pm (last admission 3pm)

The Royal Mews is part of a working royal palace so sometimes closures can happen at short notice.

The Clermont Charring Cross 
Lunch is available 7 days a week from 12pm

All bookings must be made at least 14 days in advance and are subject to availability.

Validity

Your voucher is valid for 12 Months from the date of issue.

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date.

Who Can Go

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note that tickets are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable once booked.
When you arrive, you will pass through an airport-style security check.
Toilets, a changing space and baby-care facilities are located adjacent to the large State Coach House in the middle of the visitor route.
A multilingual audio guide is included with your entrance ticket.
Photography and filming for non-commercial purposes are welcome at The Royal Mews.
The general tour is available in British Sign Language as a video tour. Subtitles are included. For hard of hearing visitors the multi-media handsets are T-coil compatible and equipped with volume control and neck loops are also available on request. Please note that the technology is not compatible with all hearing aids – a printed version of the multimedia guide script is available on request.
The Royal Mews is fully accessible.
An audio-descriptive tour in English is available for blind or partially-sighted visitors.
Guide, hearing and assistance animals are welcome.

What about Insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.
