Step into the world of authentic Japanese cooking with the Japanese Feast Class at The Jamie Oliver Cookery School.
When you arrive at the cookery school, you’ll be welcomed with a glass of fizz (or a tea or coffee if it’s a morning session), before rolling up your sleeves and discovering the art of Japanese cuisine. Guided by expert chefs, you’ll work in pairs at your own cooking stations.
The class kicks off with the building blocks of flavour, a traditional miso soup using dashi powder, kombu and premium shiitake mushrooms. You’ll master classic garnishes too, such as silken tofu and spring onion, while sharpening your knife skills. From there, the focus shifts to nasu dengaku, where aubergine is transformed into a silky, sticky delight with a miso, sake and mirin glaze.
Next comes one of Japan’s most loved dishes: gyoza. You’ll discover the secrets to creating a flavour-packed filling of pork, prawn and cabbage, before learning how to fold and shape the dumplings. Once cooked to perfection with their signature crispy bottoms, they’re paired with a tangy ponzu dipping sauce, showing you how to balance flavour like a pro. And, of course, no Japanese feast would be complete without perfectly cooked sticky rice, another skill you’ll take away.
After all that cooking, it’s time to relax at the chef’s table. Here, you’ll sit down to enjoy the feast you’ve created or if you’d rather, you can pack up your dishes to savour later. Wine, beer, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase to accompany your feast.
This cookery experience makes a fantastic gift for anyone interested in Japan's rich food culture. Plus, everyone leaves with a digital recipe pack, so the skills and the flavours can be recreated at home again and again.
This class is not suitable for gluten-free diets, or those with soy allergies. However it can be adapted for vegan and vegetarian diets.
If you are attending by yourself, you may be paired up with another person.
The classes are taught by Jamie’s team of trained teaching chefs, in his relaxed
signature style.
