If you’ve ever fancied trying something a bit different, this is your chance to step into the world of traditional bladesmithing. With expert blacksmiths guiding you throughout the day, you’ll learn how to transform raw high-carbon steel into a beautifully crafted knife.
You’ll start by forging the blade, shaping the metal while it’s glowing hot, before moving on to crafting a classic rat-tail style handle. It’s hands-on from start to finish, but you don’t need any previous experience.
Once your knife has taken shape and cooled, you’ll move on to the finishing stage. Using professional equipment, you’ll carefully grind and refine the blade, adding that clean, sharp edge that brings everything together. By the end of the day, you’ll have created a proper, heirloom-quality knife, ready to take home and use for years to come.
The experience is kept small, with no more than six people in the group and two experienced blacksmiths on hand. That means plenty of guidance, plenty of support, and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere throughout.
Lunch is included, along with snacks and drinks to keep you going. All materials and protective gear are provided too.
What to wear
Jeans that go over boots, t-shirt and jumper (no fleeces, no shorts and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty)
Foot wear - Steel-toed-capped boots or something sturdy like walking boots.
No jewellery. Hair must be tied back.
During winter, it can be very chilly in the workshop, so please wear plenty of suitable clothing.
All PPE is provided, which includes safety glasses, ear plugs and aprons.
Lunch and all snacks and drinks will be provided. Please advise of any any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
