Mother's Day Gifts - Experiences for Social Mums Who Love a Day Out!
Gifting for mum’s is hard right? Not because they are generally difficult to buy for, but because you want to show them how much they mean to you. Aside from this, there is n...
Between the jewellery heist that caused havoc for the Louvre last month, and the recent unveiling of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the world of history and archaeology has been anything but uneventful!
After 20 years of planning, Cairo has finally opened the doors to what is described as the now largest archaeological museum in the world. According to Forbes, it hosts 100,000 artefacts spanning an extraordinary 5000 years of Egypt’s ancient history, from pre-dynastic Egypt to the Greco-Roman period.
As someone fascinated by ancient Egypt, this is tremendously exciting news!
Back over to the UK
Here in the UK, we are very lucky for our museums that allow us to encounter extraordinary artefacts, shedding light on past civilizations and events that shaped our lives as we know them today.
While debates surrounding the ethics in museum practices continue, it cannot be denied they play such an important role in preserving historic artefacts like these, giving millions of people the opportunity to learn about the past.
So…why not give it a go yourself and try the Crash Course in Archaeology at the British Museum?
A day as an Archaeologist you say? Sign me up!
If you’ve ever fancied joining the Time Team for a day, dreamed of being an archaeologist, or just really love Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, this will be an unmissable experience for you!
But unlike Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, you won’t have to encounter the ridiculous traps, cockroaches or attempted soul transfers…very lucky indeed.
The archaeology crash course promises a peek into the actual daily work of an archaeologist. I’ll tell you with honesty right now that it’s long days and stubborn perseverance, but so unbelievably worth it when you make that breakthrough.
What will my day include I hear you ask?
For any ancient history lovers, or those simply looking to do something different, don’t miss the chance to learn the secrets of ancient civilisations, this is not simply an opportunity to pass up.
The Best Bit?
Nowadays, technology is increasingly present in our lives. It’s how we consume a large portion of our knowledge and it gives us answers to random queries popping into our heads within milliseconds.
But as important as technology is to our future, we must be sure not to forget the relics of the past. Besides, nothing will ever beat experiencing these masterpieces face to face.
This isn’t your regular museum tour, its immersive, engaging and will be sure to have something of interest for everyone! Be sure to see these and plenty more at the Museum!
Lucy.
