Designed especially for children aged 7 to 14, this 1.5-hour workshop invites young explorers to step into the shoes of a real palaeontologist. Guided by a professional expert, they'll discover what it’s like to study fossils and uncover clues from millions of years ago.
They'll have the chance to examine genuine fossil material while learning how palaeontologists study them to understand prehistoric life. It’s a rare opportunity to see and handle pieces of the deep past in a real working science environment.
Next, they’ll try their hand at careful fossil cleaning, just like the experts do. Using the proper tools and techniques, they’ll carefully work on real fossil material while learning how scientists reveal hidden details that have been buried for millions of years.
They'll also get the chance to create their own fossil cast. Using moulds taken from real specimens, each young palaeontologist will make a plaster cast that replicates the shape and features of ancient fossils. It’s a fun and creative way to bring prehistoric history to life.
Best of all, everyone gets to take home both the fossil they clean and the cast they create. These special keepsakes are a fantastic reminder of their time exploring the ancient past.
