This is a living museum set right in the heart of Horse Guards on Whitehall, where the King’s Life Guard still carry out their duties much as they did 350 years ago.
Housed in one of London’s most historic buildings, the museum gives you an eye-opening look behind the scenes of the Household Cavalry. You’ll discover how the ceremonial splendour you see on parade is supported by real people doing a real job, every single day. Through a large glazed partition, you can even watch troopers working with their horses in the original 18th-century stables, an experience that feels wonderfully up close without needing to polish any boots yourself.
The exhibition weaves together rare objects, first-hand accounts and interactive displays, bringing the stories of these remarkable soldiers to life. From the rigorous training to the demanding roles on parade and in armoured reconnaissance, it’s a fascinating glimpse into a world most of us only ever see from behind a crowd barrier.
And once you’ve soaked up all that history, it’s time for something equally enjoyable, a three-course lunch at The Clermont Charing Cross. This elegant London hotel serves seasonal dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients, paired perfectly with a glass of sparkling wine each. From 1 April open 7 days a week, 10am-6pm (last entry 5pm)
The Museum will be closed all day for Ceremonial Season plus: London Marathon Day, Easter Friday, and Christmas Eve to Boxing Day
The Clermont Charring Cross
Lunch is available 7 days a week from 12pm
