Perfect for families who love discovering something new together, this unique gift experience takes you on a journey through over 1,000 years of Oxford’s fascinating past, with a few ghostly surprises along the way.
Step inside the historic Oxford Castle & Prison, where costumed guides bring dramatic stories to life. You'll explore ancient towers, eerie crypts, and real prison cells while hearing tales of Viking raids, daring escapes, infamous prisoners, and Victorian justice. Climb the 101 steps of St. George’s Tower for incredible panoramic views across Oxford before descending into the atmospheric candle-lit crypt hidden beneath the castle walls.
The second part of this experience continues after dark with the Spectre Ghost Tour, a theatrical evening walking tour through Oxford’s historic streets and hidden corners. Led by the wonderfully entertaining paranormal expert Ms Morgana McGhoul, this family-friendly ghost tour blends spooky storytelling, humour, and live theatrical moments to create a fun and immersive experience for all ages.
Along the way, you'll uncover chilling legends, mysterious sightings, and fascinating local folklore linked to Oxford’s haunted past. It’s spooky but balanced with plenty of laughs and light-hearted fun so everyone is kept entertained.
On-site parking is not available. City centre car parks and the Park & Ride are available.
Oxford Castle & Prison Guided Tour
Guided tour lasts around 50 minutes. After that, you are welcome to explore the exhibition and prison at your leisure.
The tour includes a climb up 101 steps of St. George’s Tower for panoramic views of Oxford. However, children under 5 cannot climb due to safety reasons.
Spectre Ghost Tour
Meeting Point: Outside the Oxford Castle & Prison Gift Shop
Duration: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes
It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
The tour includes spooky themes, however it has been designed to be family-friendly with storytelling and light-hearted moments rather than intense scares.
This voucher is valid for advanced bookings only which must be at least 72 hours from submitting the booking form.

Departures approximately every 20–30 minutes

Every Friday at 6:30pm
Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to your allotted start times.
Your voucher is valid for 12 Months from the date of issue.
Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date.
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.
