The Main Event

This Blacksmith’s Hook Forge Experience is the perfect way to dip your toe into the world of traditional craftsmanship.

Starting at 9:30am, this three-and-a-half-hour session gives you a proper taste of life at the anvil. You’ll step into a working forge, hear the crackle of the fire, and get stuck into shaping hot metal using time-honoured techniques that have been passed down for generations.

With expert guidance throughout, you’ll learn how to draw out, bend, shape and finish your very own coat hook. It might sound simple, but this carefully designed project introduces a range of traditional blacksmithing skills. At the end of the session, you'll leave with a beautifully crafted, fully functional piece that you made yourself.

This experience is designed with beginners in mind, so no prior experience is needed. The group is kept small, with up to six participants, meaning plenty of support and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

To keep energy levels up while the forge is roaring, there are hearty savoury snacks included, sourced from local butchers and bakers.

All materials and protective gear are provided, so all you need to bring is a bit of enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go.

Important to Note

What to wear
Jeans that go over boots, t-shirt and jumper (no fleeces, no shorts and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty)
Foot wear - Steel-toed-capped boots or something sturdy like walking boots.
No jewellery. Hair must be tied back.
During winter, it can be very chilly in the workshop, so please wear plenty of suitable clothing.

All PPE is provided, which includes safety glasses, ear plugs and aprons.

Lunch and all snacks and drinks will be provided. Please advise of any any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

When

Available on selected Thursdays, from 9.30am to 1pm.

Validity

Your voucher is valid for 12 Months from the date of issue.

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date.

Who Can Go

Minimum age is 11.
Spectators are welcome and must wear appropriate PPE whilst in the workshop (that will be provided) and can come and go as they please. They can bring their own packed lunch, or one can be provided at an additional cost of £10. This is to be paid in cash on the day of the experience. Please advise when booking if needed.

What about Insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.

How it Works

All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and we’ll send a voucher and booking information to you or directly to the recipient, then you just need to check the info and book your experience.
