Set in the haunted heart of the Old Town, this witches walkig tour invites you to step onto the cobbles and into the stories that shaped Scotland’s past. Led by a wonderfully characterful, costumed storyteller, this is an atmospheric journey through legend, injustice and intrigue, told with warmth, wit and respect.
As you wander through hidden closes and winding wynds, Edinburgh itself becomes your stage. You’ll pause beneath the soaring spire of St Giles' Cathedral, stand near the historic Heart of Midlothian, and pass the charming Writers' Museum. Keep an eye out for George Heriot's School, often rumoured to have inspired elements of Harry Potter, and take in the dramatic presence of Edinburgh Castle watching over the city.
Along the way, you’ll trace the lost edges of the Nor Loch, visit the haunting Witches’ Well, and wander the famously curved Victoria Street before finishing in the historic Grassmarket, once the site of public executions and forever linked to “Half-Hangit” Maggie Dickson.
Hear the tragic and fascinating stories of Geillis Duncan, Lillias Adie, Agnes Sampson and others who faced accusation and persecution during Scotland’s witch trials. Were they truly dangerous, or simply victims of fear and suspicion? You’ll be left to decide.
Thought-provoking yet thoroughly entertaining, this tour shines a respectful light on those who suffered while bringing Edinburgh’s darker chapters vividly to life.
