The Main Event

This Three Day Sword Making Experience lets you step into the world of traditional bladesmithing and create your very own sword from raw steel.

Perfect as a unique birthday gift, Christmas present or once-in-a-lifetime experience day, this immersive three-day course gives you the chance to work alongside skilled bladesmiths and discover the fascinating process behind creating a functional forged blade.

Over three days, you'll experience the heat, skill and craftsmanship involved in making your own arming sword. From shaping the blade in the forge to the final finishing touches, you'll be guided through each stage of the process and gain an appreciation for the patience and precision that goes into traditional sword making.

On day one, you'll begin by forging your sword blade, learning how to heat, shape and manipulate steel using the power of the forge. You'll also work through the heat treatment process and begin rough grinding to bring your blade closer to its final form.

Day two focuses on refining your creation. You'll complete the finish grinding and polishing of the blade before moving on to forging and finishing the sword's fittings. This is where your sword really begins to take shape, with each element carefully crafted and prepared for assembly.

On the final day, you'll bring everything together by fitting the components, completing the finishing work and sharpening your sword, or leaving it with a safe, non-sharpened finish if you require a blade suitable for historical reenactment.

No previous bladesmithing experience is needed, making this sword making experience in Suffolk a fantastic opportunity for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Whether you're fascinated by medieval history, enjoy working with your hands or simply want to create something truly unique, this is an experience you'll never forget.

Important to Note

What to wear
It is recommended to wear thin layers and clothes you don't mind getting dirty, along with sturdy shoes or steel capped boots. Aprons and other protective equipment will be provided.

What to bring - Please bring your own lunch and water bottle each day.

Group size: A maximum of 3 people.

Refreshments (tea/coffee/soft drinks) are provided.

Validity

Your voucher is valid for 12 Months from the date of issue.

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date.

Who Can Go

What about Insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.
