Get ready for a right royal day out and discover everything you'd love to know about the royals and their horses.
Visit the Household Cavalry Museum and The Royal Mews for a chance to see historical moments and accomplishments of the The Household Cavalry with ‘behind the scenes’ insights at the work that goes into the ceremonial and armoured reconnaissance role of HM The King’s Mounted Bodyguard.
Set in the heart of Whitehall in London, the living museum with real people doing real jobs, remains the headquarters of the Household Division and The Household Cavalry. The Household Cavalry was formed in 1661 under the direct order of King Charles II and has roles: as a mounted regiment on horseback guarding His Majesty The King during ceremonial occasions and as an operational regiment serving around the world in armoured fighting vehicles.
You’ll then get the chance to see The Royal Mews, one of the finest working stables in the world and home to the royal collection of coaches and carriages plus the horses that are renowned for performing so beautifully on historical royal days.
Once you’ve been dazzled by the regiment and routine of the cavalry and The Royal Mews, take a walk down the River Thames on the Embankment to The Royal Horseguards Hotel for a sparkling afternoon tea!

The Royal Mews is open from the 1st March 2024 to the 3rd November 2024.
Open Thursday to Monday (closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays)
Opening time: 10am
Last admission: 4pm
Closing time: 5pm
The Royal Mews Closures: Friday 29th March
The Royal Mews is part of a working royal palace so sometimes closures can happen at short notice.
The Household Cavalry Museum opening times:
April to October: 10am to 6pm
November to March: 10am to 5pm
Last admission is 60 minutes before closing.
Closed annually on: Marathon Day, Easter Friday, and Christmas Eve – Boxing Day
Daily Ceremony
The Changing of the King’s Life Guard takes place on Horse Guards Parade on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11am. There is currently no Guard Change on a weekend.
The Daily Inspection takes place at 4pm (Front Yard Whitehall).
The Royal Horseguards Hotel – afternoon tea served daily from 1pm – 4:30pm
Not available on the following dates - all bank holidays, 6th May and the 24th-31st December inclusive.
All bookings must be made at least 14 days in advance and are subject to availability.
Validity
Your voucher is valid for 12 Months from the date of issue.
Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date.
Who Can Go
- Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Please note that tickets are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable once booked.
- The Royal Mews: When you arrive, you will pass through an airport-style security check.
- The Royal Mews: Toilets, a Changing Space and baby-care facilities are located adjacent to the large State Coach House in the middle of the visitor route.
- The Royal Mews: Pushchairs can be taken into the Mews.
- The Royal Mews: Photography and filming for non-commercial purposes are welcome at The Royal Mews.
- Afternoon tea not suitable for those following a vegan diet.
What about Insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.
