Get ready to take the driver’s seat of something seriously powerful with the Army Truck Driving Experience in Surrey. Forget the car wash and traffic lights, this is your chance to command a 6-tonne Leyland DAF 45/150, the kind of machine built to laugh in the face of potholes and power through mud like it’s nothing.

Taking place at the Gatwick Aviation Museum, this thrilling experience isn’t just about getting behind the wheel of a military icon, you’ll also get free entry to explore the museum itself, home to a fascinating collection of historic aircraft and aviation memorabilia.

Your adventure begins with a safety briefing and a chat with your expert instructor, who knows this beast inside out. Then it’s your turn to climb up into the cab, fire up that roaring diesel engine and feel the raw power beneath your feet. Once you’ve got the hang of the clutch and steering (which, surprisingly, isn’t as heavy as you might think), you’ll tackle a rugged off-road course designed to test the limits of both man and machine.

The Leyland DAF you’ll be driving was originally used by the British Army for everything from troop transport to refuelling tanks. The one here is fitted out as a troop carrier, ready to give you a taste of what it’s like to be in charge of serious hardware, minus the actual troops, of course.

Who Can Go

Minimum age: 18
Minimum height: 4 ft 6 in
Maximum height: 6 ft 4 in
Weight should be in proportion to your height.
UK driving licence required.
Anyone deemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to participate.
Fitness/health: You should be in reasonable health and able to climb in and out of the vehicle. This experience is not suitable for those with epilepsy, heart complaints or pregnant ladies.
Please ensure you wear long trousers and tough shoes for this experience.

What about Insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.
