In a triumphant return to the stage, the incomparable Sheridan Smith takes centre spotlight in the world premiere of "Opening Night: The Musical."
This highly anticipated production boasts a stellar creative team, with the acclaimed singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright providing the musical magic and the Tony® and Olivier® award-winning Ivo van Hove lending his directorial prowess to both the book and direction. The musical draws inspiration from the legendary film by John Cassavetes, translating the behind-the-scenes chaos of a theatre company's preparations for a major Broadway play onto the grand stage. Set against the backdrop of the exhilarating world of live performance, the narrative takes an unexpected turn when the leading lady is confronted with personal tragedy, thrusting the entire ensemble into a gripping exploration of resilience and the transformative power of the performing arts.
Premiering at London's prestigious Gielgud Theatre, "Opening Night" promises to be a beautifully rich and emotionally charged theatrical experience. The limited run, starting on March 6th, 2024, invites audiences to witness the interplay of passion, tragedy, and the indomitable spirit of the stage as the cast grapples with both the challenges of the production and the unforeseen twists in their own lives. With the combined brilliance of Smith, Wainwright, and van Hove, this musical extravaganza is poised to captivate theatre goers and carve its place as a must-see event in the vibrant landscape of contemporary musical theatre.
