Crazy for You is a romantic comedy musical that premiered on Broadway in 1992. It features music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and a book by Ken Ludwig. The musical is inspired by the 1930 musical "Girl Crazy" and incorporates several Gershwin songs from that show.
The story revolves around Bobby Child, a young banker in the 1930s who dreams of becoming a dancer on Broadway. Despite pressure from his mother to focus on his banking career, Bobby travels to Deadrock, a small town in Nevada, to foreclose on a failing theatre. However, upon arriving, he falls in love with Polly Baker, the feisty postmistress and daughter of the theatre owner.
To win Polly's heart, Bobby disguises himself as Bela Zangler, a famous New York theatre impresario. He plans to stage a show in Deadrock to save the theatre and win Polly's affection. The plot is filled with mistaken identities, comedic misunderstandings, and a delightful mix of romantic entanglements.
The musical features memorable songs from the Gershwin catalog, including "I Got Rhythm," "Embraceable You," "Nice Work If You Can Get It," and "They Can't Take That Away from Me."
