Did you know that 75% of Brits drink at least one cup of tea a day?

Which is the perfect way of toasting this year’s Afternoon Tea Week, running from 8th to 14th August 2022.

A classic British tradition dating back almost 200 years, Afternoon Tea is one of the UK’s most popular experience day gifts.

Average monthly searches for ‘afternoon tea’ in Google top 135,000 a month in the UK, with the most popular afternoon tea locations searched for including The Ritz, Fortum and Mason, the Savoy, The Shard and Claridges.

In celebration of Afternoon Tea Week, gift experience company WonderDays has created a fun and highly detailed infographic telling the story of afternoon tea.

The full infographic can be found at wonderdays.co.uk.

From the origins and history of afternoon tea to fantastic facts, such as 80% of the caffeine in tea being released in the first 30 seconds of brewing, WonderDays takes you on a journey through everything you ever needed to know about this quintessentially British pastime.

Abi Sadler, partnerships manager for WonderDays, said she learned more new things about afternoon tea than expected from the finished infographic.

“Afternoon tea is a British institution and is one of our most popular experiences by far,” she said.

“Pulling together all the data we could find on Afternoon Tea definitely brought some surprises for our team, such as one in 10 Brits drinking at least six cups of tea a day.

“Finding out 80% of the caffeine in tea is released during the first 30 seconds of pouring on the water was also something we didn’t know, although caffeine is an essential part of our diets across the WonderDays team.

“Afternoon Tea Week is the perfect excuse to host your own afternoon tea party, have a go and making your own homemade scones or enjoy someone else doing the cooking by enjoying afternoon tea out.

“There is so much choice for afternoon tea these days, from enjoying it with a glass of fizz on a red London Bus to Mediterranean twists with Italian-style afternoon teas.”
