WonderDays is turning up the heat on International Bacon Day with a sizzling selection of favourite ways to cook it from the experience days team.
When they’re not working to bring on board the newest experience day gifts, almost everyone at WonderDays considers themselves a dab hand in the kitchen.
The team loves bacon so much, they even created an infographic in honour of International Bacon Day with some of their favourite obscure facts about this beloved of breakfast meats.
While the infographic was being created, discussions in the office naturally turned from our favourite experience day gifts to our favourite bacon recipes.
Abi – Partnerships Manager, Fan Of A Nice Streaky Strip
Abi loves a good pasta with bacon, especially one of her signature dishes with a creamy tomato and bacon sauce that her three sons ask for all the time.
A simple recipe of chopped bacon fried with a smidge of garlic, chopped tomatoes or passata and at least half a tub of full fat cream cheese melted in, it is a teatime hit with the whole family every time.
Matt – Director, Always Bacon The Most Of Every Day
In a recipe where one of the key ingredients just about counts as bacon, one of Matt’s favourite things to cook is a traditional Italian carbonara with smoked pancetta.
He is very much a purist when it comes to cooking it too, with just a scant few, high-quality ingredients needed and absolutely no cream.
Maria – Marketing Manager, Cures Most Things With A Bacon Butty
Other than the classic bacon sandwich, one of Maria’s favourite ways to cook with bacon is in a leek, bacon and potato bake.
Thinly sliced floury potatoes, layered with fried leeks and crispy bacon, smothered with a rich bechamel sauce and topped with a strong cheddar or even sometimes a sprinkle of blue cheese is a regular winter warmer for dinner.
Georgia – Designer, Won’t Go Bacon Your Heart
A simple bacon sandwich without any sauce is Georgia’s favourite, especially on a laid-back weekend morning.
She does have one important tip between cooking the bacon and inserting it between bread slices though – the bread must be dipped into the hot, tasty bacon juices left behind in the pan for that extra umami hit.
Ben – Operations, Rarely Salty And Always Fries His Best
Ben is huge fan of macaroni cheese and what makes it even better, in his view is the addition of smoked streaky bacon, fried beforehand until crispy and mixed through the pasta and cheese sauce.
He then adds further strips of bacon across the top before baking, for a really crispy and salty topping.
If your tastebuds are tingling for more than just bacon or you know just the person who could do with brushing up on their culinary skills, WonderDays has a range of cookery courses and gift experiences for food lovers.
Georgia from the team has already been recommended the speedy online cooking lesson as a great way to inspire her beyond just a bacon sandwich.
